The Balko Music Department consists of both vocal and instrumental competing ensembles as well as a robust elementary music program.  

The vocal division is under the direction of Mrs Regina Vaughn and consists of the Balko High School Mixed Chorus and the Balko High School Women's Ensemble.  The mixed chorus is grades 9-12 and is a general admission ensemble.  The choir performs three graded performances a year and audition for various honor choirs and solo and ensemble competition.  The women's ensemble is a select ensemble consisting of members grades 9-12.  They perform multiple times throughout the year as well as auditioning for various honor choirs and competing at solo and ensemble competition.

The instrumental division is under the direction of Mr David Vaughn and consists of the Blako Bison Bucket Brigade and the Thundering Herd Drumline.  The Balko Bison Bucket Brigade is grades 7-8 and is a general admission ensemble.  The BBBB performs one graded performance a year as well as any exhibition performances that may occur.  This is a non-competitive group that also learns about the history of American music beginnning from the 1920s to the present.  The Thundering Herd Drumline is a select ensemble consisting of members grades 5-12.  They perform dozens of times throughout the year and compete in Winterguard and Percussion of Oklahoma (WGPO).  Members are also expected to audition for OSSAA-sanctioned honor bands and compete at solo and ensemble as well as WGPO individual and ensemble competitions.

The elementary music division is under the direction of Mrs Regina Vaughn and consists of the general music classes grades Pre-K through 6.  The elementary music program is general admission and is non-competitive.  They perform three graded performances a year and learn fundamental music theory as well as thematic lessons geared toward preparing all students to join one of the secondary performing ensembles.
